About the Role
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Diesel Mechanic / Maintenance Support professional to join our Backfill Project team within an open cast coal mining environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing a fleet of heavy earthmoving and mining equipment to ensure maximum equipment availability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
The position requires a hands-on individual with strong technical expertise, fault-finding capabilities, and experience working on heavy mining and earthmoving machinery in demanding operational environments.
Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
Qualified Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate.
Minimum 3–5 years' experience maintaining heavy earthmoving or mining equipment.
Proven experience working on equipment such as excavators, dozers, graders, front-end loaders, rollers, and TLBs.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and maintenance documentation.
Valid driver's licence.
Computer literacy will be advantageous.
Good fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
Medically fit to work on a mining site.
Advantageous
Experience within open cast coal mining operations.
Experience supporting rehabilitation, earthworks, or backfill projects.
OEM training or certifications on major equipment brands.
Auto-electrical knowledge and experience.
Welding, fabrication, or boilermaking experience.
Valid mining induction certificates.
Experience using fleet maintenance management systems.
Assist with field maintenance activities and on-site repairs when required.
Support equipment operators through technical advice and equipment care guidance.
Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
About the Company
Perform preventative maintenance, servicing, and repairs on heavy earthmoving and mining equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
Conduct routine inspections and identify maintenance requirements.
Repair and replace defective components, parts, and systems.
Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and minimise operational downtime.
Complete maintenance records, service reports, and job cards accurately.
Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements where necessary.
Maintain tools, workshop equipment, and work areas in a safe and organised condition.
Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) requirements, company procedures, and site safety standards.
Assist with field maintenance activities and on-site repairs when required.
Support equipment operators through technical advice and equipment care guidance.
Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
